We have been seeing some really crazy roses in the flower market lately. So we thought it would be fun to shout out one of our favorite vendors and show what he has been doing.

NL Flower Wholesale (@nl_flower_wholesale) is one of our favorite vendors in the Los Angeles Flower Market. He is consistently bringing some of the most unique roses we have ever seen. And they are SO wild and fun. We love being able to use these roses when it fits into the design. They truly bring something fresh to the design.

These roses are real and most of these flowers have been dyed in some way. But that is why they are so cool! Dying flowers is more common than you might think, but one minute in the flower market and you will see how common it is.

Tinted Toffee

This color is incredible. It is that mustard yellow on the outside and the dusty pinky on the inside. The rose is a show-stopper if we have ever seen one.

Sky In The Dark

Sky in the dark is probably the wildest rose I have ever seen. THEY GLOW IN THE DARK. This would be so cool for an event that started at dusk, and as the night comes the roses start to glow. These are real roses. I promise you this.

Jade

This could be a show-stopper or a nice accent in the color palette. These blues are amazing on their own, in context, or just as pops. They are intense and can really draw the eye.

Yellow Roses

So I am not sure what the name of this rose is, but I had to post it. The color is amazing. It is so yellow and would look great in a desert theme event. I could see these next to pampas grass, cactus, and anything else that is dusty or rusty. And yes, they are real.

Cappuccino Rose

Cappuccino roses work with so many color palettes. They come in different shades, but that pink in the middle really makes it blend well with so many different styles. Often times the brown is toned down, but in this case the brown is really dominant. Which is why it is so unique looking. We love them.

Whisper Mellow T58

Whisper Mellow is another incredible blue. That lighter blue on the outside really helps cut down the intensity of the interior. If you are looking for wild roses, these could be a sophisticated choice thanks to the toned down exterior.

Here is whisper mellow turned up to 100. This is funky and would work great for a theme party. We did an 80’s party with this color palette. These roses would have worked perfectly! But who needs a theme. These roses would be fun in so many different situations. They are very creative.

Dyed Blue and Brown Roses

I don’t know what the name of these roses are. But I do know that I love them and would use them in a heartbeat. These I feel like would be a great and unique secondary flower, with something even more bold to steal the spotlight. These would be such a unique and interesting supporting flower. Or your focal flower.

How to Dye Your Own Flowers.

If you are interested in doing this on your own and making your own custom color roses. It is really simple!

  1. The first step to think about is what you want your roses to look like. This of it in two stages, the base color, and the exterior color. Lighter base colors are going to work better. Darker richer colors probably won’t work as well because the dye needs to be darker than the base. A great base color to choose is light pink or white.

  2. The second step is to buy roses ( or any flower that you want to try) in the color that you want to be your base. For example, if you want the inside of your rose to be white, you buy white roses.

  3. The third step is to fill a vase with water and then add some food coloring. Here is nice looking food coloring kit (link to Amazon) The more food coloring you add, the more the flower will absorb. Experiment with different amounts. Start with 25 drops and then adjust based on how strong or faint you want the dye to be in the flower. You can even consider dying in stages, try 24 hours in one color, and then try 24 hours in another.

  4. The fourth step is to remove all leaves and trim the stems at a 45-degree angle.

  5. The 5th step is to place your trimmed roses into the vase with the food coloring in it. Leave the flowers in the vase for 24 hours.

  6. Lastly, rinse the stems and place the flowers into a clean vase.
